End of the 3rd Quarter

In February, we read about biographies and autobiographies. We looked at the life of Rosa Parks and compared her bravery

End of the 2nd Quarter

First graders are doing a great job of choosing books that will help them practice their reading skills. Choosing the right book is very important and so is reading every day. We read Nate the Great and the Halloween Hunt by Marjorie Sharmat that had us following clues to solve a mystery. Our featured author was Patricia Polacco. We loved listening to stories about her experiences growing up on a farm. Our favorite was Thank You, Mr. Falker about a special teacher. It’s the one that brings tears to Mrs. Kirchner’s eyes every time she reads it. Next we learned what a biography is and listened to the life of Helen Keller. We are going to practice sign language when we get back from Christmas break.

September

The 1st graders are checking out books that are level readers and I Can Read books to help them with their reading practice. We read Goldilocks and the Three Bears to help them understand that choosing the book that is "just right" for them is important. We are also reviewing how to use shelf markers and how to take care of their books.

Today is a great day to visit the Library!
