4th Quarter

April is poetry month. We will begin by enjoying some fun poems by Bruce Lansky and Shel Silverstein and listening for rhyming words.

End of the 3rd Quarter

It was fun to read about different families in the books The Snow globe Family, The Tub People, and The Shivers in the Fridge. We compared how they were similar and different. We agreed that families are very important. The Tale of Peter Rabbit is an old classic we didn't want to miss. Beatrix Potter was a wonderful storyteller, and she loved nature and watching the animals in the woods.

End of the 2nd Quarter

Did you know Library Lingo is NOT a dance? It is the term for the special words we will learn this year. One of the words is French (Ooh La La!) Can you guess what it is? Hint: We learned about different types of stories, such as Fairy Tales, Tall Tales, and Fables. Not sure? Ask your student. We’re also learning about how to take care of our books and are practicing those good habits in the Library. This class loves to look at books. Did I mention they like elves?

SEPTEMBER

This month students are learning the procedures to follow in the Library.

Before reading a story:

Give Me “5”

-Eyes on speaker

-Lips are closed

-Ears listening

-Hands and feet quiet

-Sitting still

Lining up for the hall:

123 eyes on me

456 finger on your lips

789 straighten up

Shelf Markers are used to keep the books in ABC order on the shelves.

Everyone has a library card number to check out books.

Kindergarten classes will be checking out two books each week. We will go over the procedures in class and talk about how to take care of our library books. Keeping our hands clean and not eating or drinking while reading our books will help them stay nice. We will also learn how to turn pages so they don’t get ripped.

We borrow library books, so it is important that we bring them back each library day.

We should have a special place to keep our library books like a bookcase or shelf. Maybe keeping them in our book bag when we aren’t reading them and having our book bag packed the night before would be a good idea.

Reading books about Clifford, Franklin, and Arthur will be fun! We also like dinosaurs and pirates.

Having a story read to us each day at home is very important. It is a special time to spend together, and we really love the stories. So, don’t forget to read each day, and enjoy your books!

Wow! The school’s Library Media Center is a great place to visit! We can also go to our neighborhood public library and get great books to read. September is library card sign-up month. If you don’t already have one, stop by your nearest public library.

Happy Reading!

TODAY IS A GREAT DAY TO VISIT THE LIBRARY!
