End of the 2nd Quarter
The fourth graders were challenged to learn about how nonfiction books are organized by working in groups to discover what each of the Dewey Decimal categories includes. They investigated the different subject areas within their category and recorded interesting facts, which they presented to the class in a report. They all learned something new and found areas of the Library they didn’t know existed. The project was concluded with a power point presentation called Dewey and the Alien. This helped them understand how all the categories are connected.

Who was Dewey? Not Duey Duck--Melvil Dewey! The 4th graders will be learning the basics of nonfiction books. A brief understanding of how the Dewey Decimal System works and the purpose of the main categories to help them find books will be our September focus.
