End of the 2nd Quarter

Each week students take turns using the laptops to find books on our online catalog, CATJR. They are working very hard to learn how to search by author, title, and subject. After recording the book address on paper, they go to the shelves and locate their books on their own. I am very proud of their efforts and love their enthusiasm. We are also reading an exciting book about a bully and can’t wait to find out the ending. (Wonder Kid Meets the Evil Lunch Snatcher by Lois Duncan)

Many students have begun taking Accelerated Reader quizzes and are doing very well with it. Remember to read carefully, review the book, and make sure you have either the book or the title and author written down when you come to take the quiz.

 September

This year the 2nd graders are being introduced to CATJR, our online catalog. They are learning the important parts of a book and how that information is connected to the online catalog. In no time at all they will be using our new laptops to search for books they want to read.

When choosing their chapter books, it is important for them to use the 5 Finger Rule. As they read a page in a book, they should put up one finger for each word they do not know. If they have 5 fingers up, the book may be too difficult for them. They should try another. Patience is another word they are learning. It takes time to find the right book!

We are also enjoying the adventures of The Magic Goose by Daniel Pinkwater. Each chapter makes us laugh.
