Wacky Hat Day was Fun!

The 4th Quarter is in full swing.

It is hard to believe Easter is behind us, and we are all looking forward to warmer weather.

End of the 3rd Quarter

PreSchool

Each week there are happy, eager faces on these little ones as they climb the stairs to the Library. We have covered so many topics this quarter from snowmen and animals in the snow to being afraid and being kind. Our story But No Elephants taught us there is always room for one more. We shared some great Valentine stories and then read about Dental Health and how to take care of our teeth. We thought Fluffy was a funny name for a porcupine, and we love Dr. Seuss books.

PreKindergarten

With the cold temperatures outside, it was a perfect time to discover what the animals do in winter and identify the tracks they make in the snow. One day we pretended to be pizzas after we read Pete's a Pizza. In February, we spent some time comparing books that are real and books that are made up stories. Dr. Seuss was celebrated in March as well as St. Patrick's Day and the search was on for leprechauns in the Library.

End of the 2nd Quarter

PreSchool

The Thursday 3’s and Friday 4’s learned their colors in their classroom. In the Library we reinforced those lessons with “Flannel Board Fun” identifying the colors of different objects. We read stories such as The Little Red Hen, The Color Tree, Otto’s Orange Day, Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? and Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? When they began learning about numbers, we read some fun books about counting, such as Counting Peas, Counting Lions, Counting Kisses, and What Comes in 2’s, 3’s & 4’s? As the Holidays approached we focused on some very special Christmas books like The Story of Jesus and The First Noel, along with Santa Moose and Merry Christmas, Mom and Dad. Our "Get Up & Move" exercises are a fun way to get the wiggles out. Each week students can earn a sticker or hand stamp for being a good listener. January will be all about winter. They are doing great!

PreK

Students learned about artists and “pointillism” in their classroom. In Library we discovered that Elephants Can Paint from the book by Katya Arnold and sometimes A Big Mistake by Lenore Rinder could turn out to be a great picture. The book Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf showed us how beautiful nature’s colors can be. Students were also introduced to the Kids Are Authors books, which encouraged them to create stories and pictures of their own. Christmas books are our favorites, especially the ones about “elves.” This is a fun and inquisitive group! We can't wait to start reading about animals in winter.

September

PreSchool

The "Thursday 3's" and "Friday 4's" (that's what I call them) seem to be settling in to school nicely. I am getting to know their names, and they are trying to pronounce mine. Our first week we read Books are not for Eating and Corduroy goes to the Library. Each week students will earn a sticker on their nametag as a reward for being a good listener.

PreKindergarten

It was fun to welcome back so many of our students from last year and and our new friend. This is a great group, and I look forward to a fun year with them. We read I love you, Mister. Bear by Sylvie Kantorovitz and compared the story to a nonfiction book about bears. We are also learning some Sign Language to help with class management. Do you know what the sign for "Me too!" is? Ask your student!

All students are also learning the Library procedures, like:

Before reading a story:

Give Me “5”

   -Eyes on speaker

   -Lips are closed

   -Ears listening

   -Hands and feet quiet

   -Sitting still

Lining up for the hall:

123 eyes on me

456 finger on your lips

789 straighten up the line
